Considered by many to be some of the worlds best full sized headphones (or simply the best headphones in general), the Sennheiser HD 650′s have been a go to model for audio enthusiasts and professionals in all walks of life for almost a decade.
As some of the best headphones you can get without reaching into the $1000+ range, the Sennheiser HD 650′s will literally change the way you listen to music – their analytical level of detail when it comes to sound reproduction and delivery combined in a durable yet extremely comfortable package makes it obvious why Sennheiser headphones are looked upon so fondly by audio enthusiasts.
Sound Quality That’s Almost Too Good To Be True
A common problem that headphone nerds like myself seem to always find with most headphones is that they’re either too “warm” or too “cold”.
In the case of headphones and audio equipment, too much warmth essentially means sacrificing detailed, precise reproduction of sound for a more “lively” or exciting sound. Not horrible in theory, but you can quickly lose detail as typically this “warmth” is generally created by boosting bass and low frequencies over the mids and highs which, especially at higher volumes, can lead to a muddy or “crowded” sound stage as the bass overpowers everything else.
On the other hand, some high quality headphones also have the issue of being too “cold” – cold in this case being the opposite problem. Headphones that reproduce sound with such precise clarity and detail is great for sound engineering and mastering, but might not be the most enjoyable to listen to casually. Without depth and texture to the bass, it’s easy to feel like something is “missing”.
The Sennheiser HD 650 headphones offer something most headphones cannot, and that’s the best of both of these worlds.
- Sleek and durable titanium metal finish
- Pristine merging of warm and fun sound with clear, crisp analytical attention to detail
- Considered to the worlds best headphones by many audio professionals
- Soft velour ear pads and headband for maximum comfort
- Lively and exciting warmth and clarity allows for excellent performance in all genres of music/types of sound
- Deep enough ear cups for hours of comfort without fatigue
- Ear pads are replaceable in the case of damage
- Wide, dynamic sound stage with depth that provides clear separation of sound
- Open back design gives an airy feel to sound while remaining tight and controlled
The sound quality of these top of the line headphones is, in a word, breathtaking. The HD650′s have the rare ability to combine lively, smooth, textured sound that practically makes your jaw drop with that analytical clarity to each and every little detail of every sound reproduced by them.
The open back design of the Sennheiser HD 650′s provide a wide three dimensional sound stage which is difficult to beat. Unlike many headphones which have the particular issue of sounding too “boxy” or as if the music is coming from inside of your head, the HD650′s give you the feeling that you’re surrounded by the sound.
The ability to isolate a single instrument or sound in a large mix of chaotic noise and focus on every intricate detail while seamlessly shifting your attention to whatever sound you please is unheard of among even some of the best headphones.
Any sort of distortion is completely unheard of as well with the HD650′s, even when maxing out volume! Sennheiser achieves this level of sound quality through hand selected and computer optimized neodymium magnetic drivers – you don’t need to understand the technical aspects of these elements, but essentially they function to prevent any and all distortion or mangling of sound.
As Comfortable As They Come
One look at the Sennheiser HD 650′s and it’s obvious that they’re definitely a very comfortable pair of headphones that anyone could wear for hours on end without even the slightest hint of discomfort.
While a little bulky, the HD 650′s aren’t nearly as heavy as you might think they are at first glance. Weighing in at just over half of a pound, they’re actually pretty lightweight for their size. The weight is distributed nice and evenly too, so you shouldn’t have any sort of issues with the weight on your neck.
While the exterior of the headphones themselves are coated in a tough titanium silver material which keeps them safe from most everyday wear and tear, just about any location on the HD 650′s which make contact with your head or skin is covered in a soft velour material. The ear cups have about half an inch or so of this material surrounding thick foam cushions which you can literally lay on like a pillow!
The adjustable headband won’t give you any comfort issues, either. The entirety of where the headband meets the top of your head is covered in the same sort of foam and velour padding which is affixed to the ear cups.
The only con to having some of the best headphones around? You’re going to drive yourself crazy finding the highest quality formats of all of your music, because listening to your old youtube rips on the HD650′s is going to make it very obvious! The Sennheiser HD 650′s are able to show you with crystal clear clarity just how excellent a high quality track can sound, but at the same time it can make low quality bit/sample rates appear so poor in comparison.
