Beyerdynamic has a reputation for making excellent audio equipment – for years they’ve been a leader in the industry, producing everything from microphones, headsets for pilots, and some of the best headphones around. They might not be as widely known as their Sennheiser or Audio Technica counterparts, but they have a very large following/fan base, especially among musicians and audio professionals from every walk of life.
The Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro Headphones are an amazing mid-level option for professional headphones. Equipped with large, comfortable over the ear padded cushions that literally feel like pillows on the sides of your head as you go about your business while barely remembering that they’re there, these are easily some of the most comfortable headphones I’ve ever used. Lightweight Yet Sturdy And Durable Build
At first glance, you would never believe that the Beyerdynamic DT 770‘s were as light as they actually are. Although some people might dislike the larger, bulky exterior of some headphones, the Beyerdynamic 770′s have a really sleek, classy look to them that immediately catches your attention. Though somewhat bulky, these headphones are surprisingly lightweight compared to most headphones of their size.
It’s not a “cheaply made” lightweight, however – in fact, the weight of these headphones actually contribute greatly to what makes them so comfortable to wear for so long without fatigue. Made of primarily plastics/polymer with the exception of the earphones themselves, there is little to add unnecessary additional weight.
For being constructed of virtually no metal however, these are surprisingly some of the most durable headphones I’ve owned! They quite literally seem to be built like a tank – although I don’t purposefully go through the process of stress testing my own headphones to see when they’ll break, my own Beyerdynamic DT 770 headphones have seen quite a bit of abuse without ever showing signs of wear and tear, and most other users report the same experience as far as durability is concerned.
Extremely Comfortable Earphone/Headband Design
The Beyerdynamic DT 770′s are amazing as far as comfort is concerned. Their lightweight nature makes it really easy to wear them for long periods of time without your neck becoming sore or any of the usual problems you’ll face when wearing large over the ear headphones for long.
Just about any part of these headphones that are going to be making direct contact with pressure points on skin is soft and comfortable. The construction of the large, soft earphones as well as the soft headband also contribute to the excellent comfort these headphones provide.
The headband is spring adjustable, making it really easy to find the perfect amount of tension for them to sit on your head and practically feel as if there’s nothing there at all, even after hours of use. The size of the large earphones is also a factor – the plush soft earphones completely surround your ears and feel like giant pillows! You can quite literally lay directly on the pads and fall asleep without the plastic digging into the sides of your head due to the generous padding.
This is great for if you intend on using them when traveling, listening to music at home, or mixing a live set – nothing is going to kill your otherwise positive experience the way that a pair of really uncomfortable headphones can.
Having plenty of room inside the earphones themselves is a huge contributor to their comfort. Even many over ear headphones have very little space inside of the earphones and are far too shallow for your ear to not feel cramped inside. The Beyerdynamic DT 770′s thankfully don’t have this problem. Providing enough space for even people with the biggest heads, there’s plenty of room for anyone to experience the three dimensional sound stage the way that it was intended.
Especially within such a reasonable price range for professional headphones like these, the sound quality is excellent! The DT 770′s are great when it comes to reproducing sound. There is certainly an emphasis on bass versus the mid and high ranges, although it is in no way muddy or detrimental to the overall sound quality of the headphones in general.
Most users agree that these are great for bass due to this slight bass boost, which they are. Rock, electronic music, or anything else with a lot of bass, noise, or general “excitement” is going to work great with the Beyerdynamic DT 770′s. This is not to say these headphones don’t perform as well when it comes to mids and highs, though – all together they produce an amazingly rich and full sound, allowing you to hear all of the subtleties of the music you’re listening to while still providing enough warmth to really feel the music.
Whether you’re considering the Beyerdynamic 770′s for at home use or for DJing, mixing, etc. you should be happy all around – they provide a fun, exciting sound stage and a very full range of sound that’s going to make them excellent for simply listening to music anywhere while still providing a neutral enough sound spectrum to not interfere with hearing audio as it’s intended if you’re using them for professional mixing or DJing.
